The aging of the population is becoming more evident. United Kingdom advances and will be the first state to have a secretariat against loneliness, pretends to act with the loneliness that “suffer the elderly, those who have lost loved ones and those who simply do not have anyone to talk to”.

The increase of the life expectancy, together with the socioeconomic moment we live, with the appearance of thousands of early retirements and reducing the working life, cause a rapid growth of this sector of the population. With the vertiginous boom of new technologies, we live the moment of history with the greatest generational distancing between this sector and the rest of society, despite the fact that the youngest sector of our elders is entering forcefully in the use of a part of the new technologies.

There are many possibilities that new technologies offer our elders, but despite this, there are many cases in which the distancing of their use and benefit is caused by:

It’s not for me: The majority of older adults are introduced autonomously in the world of new technologies, increasing the lack of understanding of their management, causing a sense of frustration and a sense of lag that leads them not to deepen their learning and therefore to the not taking advantage of its benefits.

It’s very complicated: For an important part of this generation, having grown up before the last technological revolution, causes some rejection when it comes to the use of new devices, because they thing it is too complex for them.

Unknowingly: The lack of interest is also caused in many cases by the lack of knowledge of the different benefits and advantages that some devices or applications can offer, in improving their quality of life.

For to work to eliminate these three main “generational obstacles”, MOVILFIRST has been developing its program since 2013 “We are Together” working in homes for the elderly in Budapest with the collaboration of Alcatel One Touch with the donation of tablets for the provide of adequate mobile devices to the needs of our elders.

At the same time, small face-to-face courses are taught, where their management is taught, assuming in many cases, a great advance in their quality of life:

Network of relationships, preserve and create new: The use of mobile telephony, and tools such as email and instant messaging, streamline their communication with family and friends. The reunion with old acquaintances or the creation of new relationships, returns the illusion of making small new objectives.

Overcoming prejudices: They demonstrate to society and themselves that the Third Age is not synonymous with the past and encourages them not to depart from social life when they feel useless.

Independence: Technologies such as the Internet or many new applications created especially for this sector of the population, favor their autonomy as independent persons. They can immediately access information about resources that can support them in daily life.

More active and healthy: Health is composed not only of the balance of the physical factor, but also of the psychic or mental. The lack of mental activity causes a decrease in learning ability, which is accentuated in old age. Several studies have shown that learning new technologies stimulates the mental activity of older people, reducing the incidence of diseases such as Alzheimer's.

More and more, new mobile applications appear to solve everyday problems and improve the way they read, entertain, communicate, learn and see life.
